The Michigan Association of Animal Control Officers
Established in 1958, The Michigan Association of Animal Control Officer (MAACO) exists to provide leadership and guidance to animal control professionals in Michigan through conferences, training opportunities, active committees and various other professional services. We are consistently striving to improve animal welfare and promote public safety through the effective enforcement of Michigan's laws and local regulations. MAACO is dedicated to improving the standards of acceptable animal care and responsible pet ownership through the advancement of the animal care and control profession.

The Animal Control Officer Training Program
The Animal Control Officer Training Program is designed to provide comprehensive training to future and current animal control and humane law enforcement professionals.
Animal Shelter and Control facilities are governed by the Michigan Department of Agriculture (MDA). By law, in order to be eligible for employment as an Animal Control Officer in Michigan an individual must successfully complete 100 hours of training accepted by the MDA.
The Michigan Association of Animal Control Officers (MAACO) Animal Control Officer Training Program is the most comprehensive training program available to individuals interested in a fulfilling career as an Animal Control Officer or Humane Law Enforcement Officer in Michigan. Students will receive extensive training in topics ranging from animal identification and behavior to the legal process and investigative techniques. This course has the full support of the MDA and upon successful completion graduates will have satisfied all training and educational requirements necessary to seek employment and find success as an Animal Control Officer in the State of Michigan.
