Microchip Study Help Needed

NACA Members, the following message is from Dr. Linda Lord, a research
specialist with the Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine.
Dr. Lord is currently working with the National Council on Pet Population
Study and Policy on the Shelter Population Index in Companion Animals. NACA
is a member of this group and additional information is available at
http://www.petpopulation.org/. Part of Dr. Lord's work has focused on lost
pet reunification. In that regard, she is seeking participants to assist in
furthering that goal through the study mentioned below.

From Dr. Linda Lord:

Dear NACA Member,

I'm working on a study to look at the prevalence of animals entering
shelters that are found to have microchips and are then successfully
reunited with their owners. My goal is to recruit 35 to 70 larger shelters
across the United States that would be willing to collect data only on
incoming animals with microchips. From speaking with many
shelters on this issue, it is my belief that a moderate percentage of
animals can't be reunited due to problems with registration information for
the microchip.

I believe it is very important for us to objectively look at the issues
surrounding reunification with microchips. The great part about the study
is it will require little work on the part of each shelter.

I am hoping to gain the help of many of your shelters in the project. The
only requirements are that your shelter scans all incoming animals and that
someone can record monthly data in an Excel spreadsheet I provide on animals
that have chips.

If you are interested, please let me know directly at lord.19@osu.edu and I
can send you a file with more detailed analysis of the project.

Thank you,

Linda Lord
